Regulatory requirements.
All egg products shall have been processed according to 7 CFR 59, Regulations Governing the Inspection of Eggs and Egg Products. The delivered product shall comply with all applicable Federal and State mandatory requirements and regulations relating to the preparation, packaging, labeling, storage, distribution, and sales of the product in the commercial marketplace. All deliveries shall conform in every respect to the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and regulations promulgated thereunder.
Quality assurance.
Prior to submission of offers, plants shall be approved by the Dairy Grading Section, Dairy Division, Agricultural Marketing Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). When required in the solicitation, contract, or purchase order, the Dairy Grading Section will determine the quality assurance of the eggnog according to their procedures, The product shall be examined and/or analyzed in accordance with applicable provisions in the CID, and when applicable, the United States Standards for Condition of Food Containers currently effect on the date of the solicitation.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking.
The eggnog shall be preserved, packaged, packed, and case marked in accordance with good commercial practice. Commercial labeling and packaging, as may be augmented by the contract or purchase order, shall be acceptable. Shipping containers shall comply with the National Motor Freight Classification or Uniform Freight Classification, as applicable.
For Department of Defense procurements.
The following requirements are applicable when specified by the contracting officer:
A. Packaging. Thirty-two fluid ounces of product shall be filled in a tin plated metal can and hermetically sealed. Cans shall be round, open-top style, with soldered or welded side seams and compound-lined, double seamed ends. Alternatively, can ends may be fabricated from ECCS plate, enameled both inside and out. The entire inside area shall be enameled. The can shall be coated outside with a coating conforming to Type I, or, when specified, Type III of TT-C-495.
B. Packing. Twelve cans shall be packed in a fiberboard box constructed, closed, and reinforced in accordance with PPP-B-636, Grade V3S or V4C, Style RSC. Reinforcement shall be limited to nonmetallic strapping or pressure-sensitive, adhesive, filament-reinforced tape.
C. Unit loads. Shipping containers shall be arranged in unit loads in accordance with MIL-L-35078.
D. Marking. Marking of unit pack, shipping container, and unit load shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-129.
