For Department of Defense procurements.
The following requirements are applicable when specified by the contracting officer:
A. Commercial and expert packaging. Same as for commercial practices (see Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking).
B. Commercial packing. Not less than 40 pounds or more than 60 pounds of 1- or 2-pound vacuum packaged frankfurters, or bulk packaged frankfurters in 5- or 10-pound cartons, shall be packed in a fiberboard container complying with Uniform Freight Classification or National Motor Freight Classification, as applicable, except metal fasteners shall not be used in the final closure of the box.
C. Export packing. Not less than 40 pounds or more than 60 pounds of 1- or 2-pound vacuum packaged frankfurters, or bulk packaged frankfurters in 5- or 10-pound cartons, shall be packed into a snug fitting fiberboard box constructed and closed in accordance with Style RSC, Grade W5c or W5s of PPP-B-636. Each shipping container shall be reinforced with nonmetallic strapping or pressure-sensitive adhesive filament-reinforced tape in accordance with the appendix of PPP-B-636.
D. Commercial unit loads. Shipping containers shall be arranged in unit loads in accordance with Type III, Class G of MIL-L-35078. When unit loads are strapped, the strapping shall be limited to nonmetallic strapping.
E. Export unit loads. Shipping containers shall be arranged in unit loads in accordance with Type I, Class A of MIL-L-35078. When unit loads are strapped, the strapping shall be limited to nonmetallic strapping.
F. Labeling. Labeling of pouches shall be in accordance with commercial practice and be in compliance with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and regulations promulgated thereunder.
G. Marking. Commercial markings for shipping containers are acceptable provided the following information is included:
