3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Basic requirements: The chicken fillets and nuggets shall have been produced and processed from broiler/fryer chickens which have been produced, raised, and processed in the United States, its territories and possessions, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the Trust Territories of the Pacific Islands. Slaughtering, eviscerating, and processing of chickens; preparation; formulation; cooking; individually frozen and frozen (temperatures) shall be in accordance with Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Meat and Poultry Inspection Regulations (9 CFR Part 381). Poultry which has been shipped between plants shall be accompanied by a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) FSIS or Poultry Products Grading Certificate, certifying grade (as applicable), class, condition, and slaughter date.
Unless otherwise specified, the chicken fillets or nuggets shall not have been processed and packaged prior to the date of the contract.
3.2 Types:
Type I - 3-ounce fillet. Each cooked, individually frozen, finished fillet shall weigh not less than 3 ounces. The fillets shall be packaged in plastic-film bags, with approximately 5 or
10 pounds of product per bag, and 8 or 4 bags packed in each shipping container, to a net weight of 40 pounds. The solicitation, contract, or purchase order shall indicate (a) finished product shape as round, oval, or no preference of shape, and (b) packaging in 5 or 10 pound bags, or packaged and packed in accordance with export or other requirements specified in the solicitation, contract, or purchase order.
Type II - 5-ounce fillet. Each cooked, individually frozen, finished fillet shall weigh not less than 5 ounces. The fillets shall be packaged in plastic-film bags, with approximately 5 or
10 pounds of product per bag, and 8 or 4 bags packed in each shipping container, to a net weight of 40 pounds. The solicitation, contract, or purchase order shall indicate (a) finished product shape as round, oval, or no preference of shape, and (b) packaging in 5 or 10 pound bags, or packaged and packed in accordance with export or other requirements specified in the solicitation, contract, or purchase order.
Type III - 0.5-ounce (1/2 ounce) nugget. Each cooked, individually frozen, finished nugget shall weigh not less than 0.5 ounce. The nuggets shall be packaged in plastic-film bags, with approximately 5 or 10 pounds of product per bag, and 8 or 4 bags packed in each
shipping container, to a net weight of 40 pounds. The solicitation, contract, or purchase order shall indicate (a) finished product shape as round, oval, or no preference of shape, and (b) packaging in 5 or 10 pound bags, or packaged and packed in accordance with export or other requirements specified in the solicitation, contract, or purchase order.
