2. Examination of sausage. The operating efficiency of the metal detection device will be determined by placing a detection strip with a sphere of 440 stainless steel in the center of the detection field pattern. A detection strip with (a) a 0.0591 inch (1.50 mm) sphere will be used for examination of layered sausage product or (b) a 0.1181 inch (3.00 mm) sphere for sausage product examined in a package or in a shipping container. The Poultry Division will provide the detection test strip with the stainless steel sphere of the specified diameter.
K. Freezing. The packaged and packed IQF sausage product must be (1) handled so the sausage products are not stuck together when shipped, and (2) placed in a freezer within 4 hours of packaging and the internal temperature lowered to 0oF (-17.8oC) or lower within 72 hours from the time of entering the freezer. The frozen sausage product shall be held at 0oF (-17.8oC) or below after freezing and the internal temperature shall not exceed 0oF (-17.8oC) at the time of shipment and delivery. Delivery units with internal product temperatures of 1o to 5oF (-17.2o to -15oC) will be tentatively rejected. Tentatively rejected delivery units may be returned to the freezer and the temperature reduced to 0oF (-17.8oC) or lower and reoffered one time only. Delivery units exceeding 5oF (-15oC) or delivery units that have been tentatively rejected and exceed 0oF (-17.8oC) when reoffered will be rejected.
Contractor’s certification.
By submitting an offer, the contractor certifies that the product offered meets the specified salient characteristics and requirements of this CID; conforms to the producer’s own specifications and standards, including product characteristics, manufacturing procedures, quality control procedures, and storage and handling practices; has a national or regional distribution from storage facilities located within the United States, its territories, or possessions; and is sold on the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to determine proof of such conformance prior to first delivery from point of origin and any time thereafter, up to and including delivery at final destination, as may be necessary to determine conformance with the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements.
The delivered product shall comply with all applicable Federal and State mandatory requirements and regulations relating to the preparation, packaging, labeling, storage, distribution, and sales of the product within the commercial marketplace. Delivered product shall comply with all applicable provisions of Meat and Poultry Products Inspection Acts and regulations promulgated thereunder. Delivered product shall comply with all applicable provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and regulations promulgated thereunder.
