Quality assurance.
When required in the solicitation, contract or purchase order, the quality assurance for the poultry breakfast sausage shall be determined by the Poultry Division, Agricultural Marketing Service, USDA in accordance with USDA procedures. The product shall be examined and/or tested for conformance to the product requirements in this CID and when applicable, the United States Standards for Condition of Food Containers currently in effect on the date of the solicitation and in accordance with the requirements in the applicable regulations.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking.
The poultry breakfast sausage shall be preserved, packaged, packed, labeled, and cases marked in accordance with good commercial practice. Commercial labeling and packaging, as may be augmented by the solicitation, contract, or purchase order, shall be acceptable. Shipping containers shall comply with the National Motor Freight Classification or Uniform Freight Classification, as applicable.
For Department of Defense procurements (Only).
The following requirements are applicable when specified by the contracting officer.
A. Packaging (commercial and export).
Type I. packaging. The product shall be packaged in 2 mil plastic film bags in layers one link thick with commercial separation paper or plastic film between layers to a net weight of 10 pounds (4.54 kg). The air shall be exhausted from the bag and closed by heat seal or with a metal or plastic clip or tie.
Type II. packaging. The product shall be packaged in 2 mil plastic film bags to a net weight of 10 pounds (4.54 kg). Commercial patty paper or plastic film must be placed between each party or layer of patties before packaging. The air shall be exhausted from the bag and the bag closed by heat seal or with a metal or plastic clip or tie.
B. Commercial packing. Four bags shall be packed in containers complying with the National Motor Freight Classification or Uniform Freight Classification, as applicable, except metal fasteners shall not be used in the final closure of fiberboard boxes. Each box packed with bags shall be provided with a full-height, half-slotted partition, fabricated from the same material as the box. The partition shall divide the box into for equal cells each cell containing one bag. Alternatively, the container may have an integral, full-height partition that divides the interior of the box into two cells of equal volume, each cell containing two bags.
